This is one of my all-time favorite RPGs. I wish they would reimagine it into a modern style. I once attempted to recreate it using the editing tools from the Never Winter Nights 2 computer game. I was able to create one town and the immediate areas surrounding it.

Interesting that you went into it satirizing the "modern babby games" critic and then immediately pulled that point up seriously. Not sure which way to take that. Early games were made hard in the interest of two things- one quarter munching because a lot of them had arcade dreams, and two to be seen as a good value for the money, because the file sizes were so small the difficulty significantly lengthened the amount of time it took to beat. But, being difficult just to be difficult is widely seen as a mistake nowadays. However being difficult as an intentional game mechanic is seen as a good thing, like everyone's favorite critical comparison game is. Wizardry was the progenitor of that mindset imo. It was meant to be unforgiving, to see your team members die, to hit you with tragic RNG. Darkest dungeon is just a new coat of paint designed to evoke the exact feeling of Wizardry- constantly at risk of failure, party members dying, not enough space in the inventory. Wizardry was also just meant to be a challenge because the circumstances of the story said you were in an impossible situation and they wanted to represent that well, and boy did they. Difficulty back then was seen as more appropriate but nowadays having modularity is even better. Being able to specifically tone the difficulty to challenge yourself while not frustrating yourself, or to be able to take it easy when you want to, is absolutely fine. What matters more is the option to be able to turn the difficulty up if you are a player who is of that skill level. When games are tragically easy even on hard its awful.

souls players and elden ring fans should give this game a shot. Just like "Dungeon Magic" you have to grind, think, and really conserve resources. It's a frustrating, cleverly-made game with so much awsome replayability.

It's a really good games. I like the hitting effect of artillery unit. The crumbling building and the blasted out infantry. Better than aoe 4 overall graphically, Probably the best in all rts.

PSA: Don't listen to what he said about the Celerity discipline sucking. Once you put a few ranks into it, it becomes easily the most overpowered discipline in the game, letting you dodge bullets and melee windups, and it makes all the later game combat sections a lot more fun and bearable, especially if you're doing a ranged build.

I believe Rawulfs being very pious might have some connection to cynocephalus mythos. Admittedly, I just very quickly glanced over the whole thing, but TL;DR is: people with dog heads, some saints were depicted as such, very cool. But maybe not, as I said, I didn't look too deep into it. Or maybe they just wanted dog people and the dice landed on piety boost.

One of these days I need to try this again with the map mod. I live the series, but I'm easily lost in life or games and it poses me off too much with this series that I've never completed any of them.

Temple Plus is a must use mod/update to the engine, quality of life and bug fixes as well as new class/race/spells/feats options. Circle of Eight adds new content as well as fixing things; both are must haves for modern playthrough of TOEE.
